Course Overview

This Door Supervisor course in Derby provides all the essential training, knowledge and certifications required to apply for your SIA Door Supervisor Licence - a legal requirement for working in roles such as venue security, retail security, event safety and licensed premises supervision.

 

Delivered by experienced security industry professionals, the course follows a blended learning format. You’ll begin with online pre-course eLearning to cover key theory at your own pace, followed by focused classroom sessions designed to develop your practical skills through scenario-based training and real-world roleplay.

 

Throughout the course, you’ll gain critical skills in conflict management and physical intervention. The training is hands-on, engaging, and designed to ensure you leave not only qualified but confident, competent, and fully prepared for frontline security work.

Who is this Course For?

  • Anyone wishing to gain a recognised, professional qualification to work legally as a Door Supervisor in the UK
  • Former Door Supervisors whose licence has expired beyond the renewal window and now require a full course to reapply

Entry Requirements:

  • Aged 18 or over
  • Good command of English (spoken, reading and writing)
  • Valid photo identification (passport or driving licence)
  • Emergency First Aid at Work qualification or equivalent with at least 1 year's validity. Don't have one? You will have the option to add this to your course package on booking.

This course requires a valid Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) certificate with at least 1 year’s validity.

If you don’t already have one, no problem - you will have the option to add first aid to your security training course booking, which will be completed at the start of your training.

Learners who already hold a valid certificate must provide proof after booking.

General Duties of a Door Supervisor

Door Supervisors are often the first line of defence in licensed premises, playing a crucial role in maintaining safety and order at bars, nightclubs, and event venues.

 

This role requires strong interpersonal skills, vigilance, professionalism and the ability to remain calm and confident when handling challenging or high-pressure situations.

 

Core duties include:

  • Controlling access by checking identification, managing entry queues and enforcing age restrictions
  • Maintaining crowd control to ensure safe and orderly entry, exit and movement within venues
  • Conducting searches for prohibited items such as weapons or drugs, following legal and licensing guidelines
